Occasionally there are reasons why older children and young people who can't return home, also can't be considered for adoption or permanent fostering. Such children and young people still need a secure, positive experience of family life where they can receive unconditional acceptance, support, guidance and friendship to help them move successfully into independent adulthood. These children/young people will need to stay with foster carers on a long-term basis.
