Short Term Placements
It is also difficult to define the length of this kind of placement, which might happen for a variety of reasons. For example:
- Extension of an emergency placement to allow work to be done with a family to help return a child back home
- A planned period of a child/young person being looked after, with the consent of birth parents, to work through family difficulties
- When a decision has been taken that a child/young person cannot return to his/her birth family, either his/her current placement, or a new one, will become a 'bridging' placement where he/she will be helped to prepare for a move to an adoptive, or permanent foster family. The length of time this may take will vary and could last up to two years or sometimes longer.
