Stop Press BILLY NEEDS A FAMILY - COULD THIS BE YOU? Billy has light brown hair, blue eyes and a lovely cheeky face. He has started to lose his rounded chubby appearance as he matures, but still maintains a loveable charm. Billy is 8, and has started to take an interest in extra- curricular activities. He can be a real show-off and loves to be the centre of attention. He also enjoys adult company and has no inhibitions about approaching people. He has recently joined a drama group and excels when he is in the spotlight. Billy has a determined character and puts his all in to anything that he tries. His strong character and behaviour determines that he has to have boundaries in place and be kept occupied otherwise he will get up to mischief. One recent example of this is that Billy has taken to spitting: he wakes early in the morning and because no one is around he has been spitting on his window and walls to occupy himself. His carers now have this controlled. Waking early in the morning and not going to sleep until later at night is a new pattern in Billy’s behaviour since he commenced on medication for ADHD. His carers advised that previously Billy was a very good sleeper. Along with this Billy has suffered a loss in appetite and struggles to eat full meals. His carers and the school monitor this closely. Although there has been a marked improvement in Billy’s behaviour since commencing his medication he can become excited and wild and has to be ‘reigned in’. He responds to discipline from his current carers and his teachers and the need for such discipline has reduced as he has stabilised on his medication and become accustomed to routines. Billy now seeks comfort from his carers and will ‘cuddle in’. When first looked after by foster carers, Billy showed no emotional warmth and was a very aggressive little boy displaying alarming behaviours. This included both physical and verbal sexualised behaviour. Billy currently has contact with a close relative every week and this is a positive experience for him. Therefore a placement in or as near to Dundee as possible would most suit his needs. JAMIE NEEDS A FAMILY - COULD THIS BE YOU? Jamie is a 7-year-old boy who has brown hair and blue eyes. Jamie is tall for his age and at times can have the strength of an older child. Jamie is the height of an average 8 year old and weight of an average 10-11 year old. Jamie is on the Autistic Spectrum, whose behaviour is often driven by anxiety caused by change and the unexpected. Jamie has lived with temporary foster carers however, this placement will be coming to an end and Jamie needs a permanent substitute family. Jamie's social and emotional development has improved whilst staying with his present carers however, in recent times Jamie has been showing a considerable amount of physical and verbal aggression towards both his carers, teachers and on occasions his class mates. It has become apparent that most of this aggression appears to be aimed at females. Future carers for Jamie would need to be a couple who are confident and experienced, and who possibly have the knowledge and understanding of children who are on the Autistic Spectrum. They would both need to be in good health and be able to provide a long-term placement. Jamie has supervised contact with a family member once every few weeks.
